What this is

ADHD Therapy, done properly.

ADHD therapy at Trust Therapy is neurodiversity-affirming: the aim is not to make you less yourself but to reduce the friction between how you work and what your day demands. For children and teens that usually means executive function skills, emotional regulation, and parent coaching. For adults it means systems for time and tasks, strategies for the emotional side of ADHD, and untangling the anxiety, low mood, or self-criticism that often come with a late diagnosis.

Our Co-Head Clinician Yakov Iliabaev has ADHD himself and grew up with a brother on the autism spectrum; several colleagues share that focus. We also work with autism and with the very common overlap of ADHD, anxiety, and OCD.

You might be looking for this if
  • A child or teen with a new ADHD diagnosis and no plan for what comes next
  • Homework, mornings, or bedtimes that turn into daily battles
  • An adult who was recently diagnosed, or suspects ADHD, and wants to understand it
  • Trouble starting tasks, keeping track of time, or finishing what you begin
  • Big, fast emotions and rejection sensitivity that strain relationships
  • Anxiety or low mood that seems to travel with the ADHD
How we work

Our approach in three parts.

01

Executive function, made concrete

We build routines and external structures that fit you or your child: task capture, time anchors, transitions, and environments that reduce distraction. Each strategy is tested in real weeks, not just discussed.

02

Emotion, not just attention

ADHD is as much about regulation as focus. CBT, DBT skills, and ACT help with frustration, impulsivity, rejection sensitivity, and the shame that builds up after years of "try harder."

03

Coaching for parents and partners

Parent coaching translates the science into what to do at 7 AM on a school day. For adults, partners are welcome in some sessions so that the relationship works with ADHD rather than around it.

Good to know

Questions people ask us.

Can you diagnose ADHD?

Psychotherapists and social workers do not perform formal ADHD assessments; a physician, psychiatrist, or psychologist does. We work with you before, during, and after an assessment, and can help you decide whether one would be useful.

Is therapy useful if I am already on medication?

Yes. Medication can help with attention, but it does not teach planning, routines, or emotional regulation, and it does not undo years of self-criticism. Therapy and medication together are the most researched combination.

Do you work with adults who were diagnosed late?

Often. A diagnosis in your thirties, forties, or later reframes a lot of your history. We help you make sense of that, build strategies that fit adult life, and address the anxiety or low mood that frequently came along for the ride.

Can I meet in person in Thornhill?

Yes. Our office is at 1118 Centre Street, Suite 205, in Thornhill, with evening hours Monday to Thursday, Friday until 2 PM, and Sunday appointments. If coming in is not practical, the same clinicians see clients by secure video anywhere in Ontario, and in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.

Is this covered by insurance?

Most extended health plans cover psychotherapy delivered by a Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Social Worker, and we issue a receipt after every session for you to submit. Coverage amounts and eligible designations vary by plan, so please confirm with your insurer before your first appointment.
