What this is

Trauma Therapy, done properly.

Trauma therapy at Trust Therapy is paced by you. Nothing has to be described before you are ready. We work with post-traumatic stress after motor vehicle accidents, occupational trauma in first responders and healthcare workers, single incidents such as an assault or sudden loss, and the longer shadow of childhood or relational trauma.

The clinicians who take this work are trained in trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and understand how trauma shows up in the body, in sleep, and in relationships. If you are recovering from a car accident, treatment is frequently covered by auto insurance.

You might be looking for this if
  • Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive memories of an event
  • Feeling constantly on guard, jumpy, or unable to relax
  • Avoiding driving, certain places, or people connected to what happened
  • Numbness, detachment, or feeling like you are watching your life from outside
  • Anger, guilt, or shame that seems tied to the past
  • A job, such as policing, paramedicine, or nursing, that keeps exposing you to hard things
How we work

Our approach in three parts.

01

Safety and stabilisation first

Early sessions build grounding, sleep, and emotion-regulation skills so that processing the event, when you choose to, does not overwhelm you. For many people this stage alone brings real relief.

02

Processing, at your pace

Trauma-focused CBT, Internal Family Systems, and narrative approaches help the memory become something that happened rather than something still happening. You set the speed and can pause at any point.

03

Rebuilding the life around it

The last phase is about returning to driving, to work, to relationships, and to the parts of yourself that went quiet. Sessions can be in person or online, and shift-work schedules are accommodated.

Good to know

Questions people ask us.

Do I have to talk about what happened?

Not until you are ready, and some effective approaches need far less detail than people fear. Your therapist will explain each step before it happens and you can stop or slow down at any time.

Do you offer EMDR?

Ask during your free consultation. Our matching team will tell you which clinicians currently offer specific trauma modalities and match you accordingly, or refer you if what you need is not available here.

Is therapy after a car accident covered by auto insurance?

In Ontario, psychological treatment after a motor vehicle accident is commonly covered under your auto insurance accident benefits. We provide the documentation your insurer or lawyer needs.

Can I meet in person in Thornhill?

Yes. Our office is at 1118 Centre Street, Suite 205, in Thornhill, with evening hours Monday to Thursday, Friday until 2 PM, and Sunday appointments. If coming in is not practical, the same clinicians see clients by secure video anywhere in Ontario, and in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.

Is this covered by insurance?

Most extended health plans cover psychotherapy delivered by a Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Social Worker, and we issue a receipt after every session for you to submit. Coverage amounts and eligible designations vary by plan, so please confirm with your insurer before your first appointment.

How do I get started?
