Sessions focus on identifying patterns, practicing new communication skills, and resolving conflicts collaboratively...
Decades of research on relationships show that communication breakdown is one of the strongest predictors of marital dissatisfaction and conflict. Evidence-based approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and systemic family therapy are proven to reduce conflict, increase empathy, and improve long-term relational stability.
Couples and family therapy provides a space to address recurring patterns of misunderstanding, unmet needs, and role stressors. Interventions are designed to promote healthier conflict resolution, secure attachment, and collaborative problem solving. Studies demonstrate that couples who participate in therapy together experience higher satisfaction, better parenting outcomes, and more resilient family structures.

It is ideal for both partners to attend sessions together to address the issues in the relationship collaboratively, but we can also work with one partner when needed or is able to attend the session.
Many couples see improvement in 8–12 sessions, especially when they are both engaged and consistent in the process. However, the amount of sessions may depend on what the therapist recommends, which will be decided upon the complexity of the issues being addressed.
For couples work, yes, both partners attend the sessions, though the therapist may meet each of you individually early on. If your partner is not ready, individual relationship therapy is a real option and often changes the dynamic on its own.
Family therapy brings in whoever the difficulty involves, often parents and a teen or adult children and a parent, and works on the patterns between everyone rather than one relationship. The therapist decides with you who should be in the room for which sessions.
