Our therapeutic approach

What to expect

We begin with a comprehensive assessment of your accident's impact...

What the research says

Motor vehicle accidents often trigger both physical and psychological symptoms, and research shows that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can occur even in the absence of severe injury. Symptoms such as flashbacks, hypervigilance, and avoidance behaviors are common, and without treatment, can persist long-term. Evidence supports the use of trauma-focused interventions like EMDR and trauma-informed CBT to reduce distress and improve recovery.

Going a little deeper

Additionally, individuals recovering from accidents may face chronic pain, loss of independence, and fear of driving, which can further reinforce anxiety. Studies emphasize the importance of early intervention, as beginning therapy soon after the accident has been associated with faster recovery and reduced risk of developing chronic PTSD.

Good to know

Questions people ask us.

How soon after an accident should I seek therapy?

The sooner you begin, the better chance you have of preventing long-term difficulties. Even if physical injuries are minor, the emotional and psychological effects of the accident may appear and can inhibit you from going back to your normal day-to-day activities. Starting therapy can get you back on track, and help you process trauma, develop coping strategies, and provide emotional support to help reduce any stress or anxiety.

Will my auto insurance cover therapy?

Yes, auto insurance in Ontario typically covers treatment for post-motor vehicle accidents, which also includes psychological counselling.

What if I wasn't physically injured badly?

Even if there were minor injuries, the psychological trauma may continue to disrupt your daily life and activities such as fear of driving and heightened anxiety. Going to therapy can allow you to work through those emotional responses and recover more fully.

Do I need a referral to start?

No. You can book directly. If you are claiming through your auto insurance, we provide receipts and the treatment documentation your adjuster asks for, and we can tell you on the consultation what your claim typically needs.

What if I am afraid to drive again?

Driving anxiety after a collision is one of the most common reasons people come to us, and it responds well to treatment. We work at your pace, from being a passenger to short familiar routes to the roads you have been avoiding, alongside the trauma work itself.
