DBT is a highly structured, evidence-based therapy originally developed for borderline personality disorder but now widely used for various conditions, including chronic depression, eating disorders, and substance use. Peer-reviewed studies have consistently shown that DBT reduces self-harm behaviors, suicidal ideation, and emotional dysregulation.
The therapy combines mindfulness with skills training in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Research demonstrates that practicing these skills both within and outside of sessions leads to long-term improvement in emotional stability, coping, and relationships. DBT programs are among the most validated treatments in clinical psychology for clients experiencing intense and chronic emotional difficulties.

The DBT program will typically last around 12–24 weeks, but the exact length can vary depending on individual goals and level of support needed.
No. DBT skills help anyone whose emotions run hot and fast, whose relationships keep blowing up, or who reacts in ways they regret. A diagnosis is not required and is not something we provide.
Yes. The skills work well by secure video, and practising them between sessions in your own environment is part of the approach. In-person sessions in Thornhill are also available.
